La Marche de l'empereur
I just watched The March of the Penguins. It was a great movie, captivating, extraordinary, and absolutely beautiful. It makes you wonder about life, wonder about the first penguin-precursors that decided to stay in Antarctica even as the weather was changing inexorably from a tropical balmy rainforest into a frigid, wind-ravaged iceland. They have lived in Antarctica for millions of years, slowly evolving as the weather made demands on their survival.
The documentary, as the title suggests, covers only the emperor penguins. Many other species exist, but the emperors must have been the most dignified to film. Above all, the narration was great. Not a word was out of place; not an irritating phrase to mar the film. Every sentence was crafted to elevate the film into a timeless archive, preserving for the next age a reminder of life's survivalist edge and love's inspiring devotion.
