Roberts confirmation hearings
It is so exciting. I'm watching the confirmation hearing for the first time, fully cognizant of his potential political and judicial influence on the Supreme Court.
Although Bush appears to have so brazenly put Roberts on the fast track to being Chief Justice before even Rehnquist's body turn cold--I'm reminded of Hamlet: "Thrift, thrift, Horatio! The funeral bak'd meats / Did coldly furnish forth the marriage tables"--I am excited. The last time it happened was when I was but 10, I presume, too young to know what the world is like.
Much like the Pope's death. This is the first for me. The veterans of old might dismiss these as pomps that keep the status quo and are all shows, the changing of the wardrobe that dress the corrupted old in newer garment to dazzle our eyes in a Dickinsonian way, before we are blinded.
