global warming
/sarcasm "Al Gore - Global Warming Expert": When I watched the movie "An Inconvenient Truth," I was taken aback by Gore's invocation of God and his declaration reducing anthropogenic contribution to global warming is a moral issue.
Quoting from the Bible can be poetic. Quoting from some quotable individuals, like Gandhi; Martin Luther King, Jr.; Thomas Jefferson and many others can be effective. Invoking God by himself is inane. Moreover, nothing in the Bible preaches that pollution or waste is wrong. Nothing in the Bible states that changing the climate for the worst for our grandchildren is wrong. One might say, "Well, the Bible should say that."
But it doesn't. Polluting is okay. I can see nothing wrong with depriving our grandchildren of polar bears. Environmentalists can wring their hands over the extinction of the dojo, and I may sympathize with the loss of this awkward species, but it does not matter at all to me.
It's not by moral values, but by fear and aesthetics that we can best appeal to people.
