Deaf culture
Actually I might be wrong. I just saw David Eberwein's name in the ending credits
of Signing Naturally, but I can't find a picture of him in the book.
So I don't know.
Anyway, I recognize the name. Ricky Taylor (also known as Ridor) gave
an account of him as being a "douchbag" in Gallaudet.

In any case, I certainly didn't know what he looked like before I saw
him on Thursday teaching a Deaf culture class. Though I suspected he was gay.
I want to explain more about why I didn't really get a good vibe from
him. It wasn't because I remembered Ridor's story. I didn't even know
anything about David Eberwein!
For me, it was his attitude, his level of discourse, his manner of
acting on the fringe of insanity, of being radical, blameful, and
quick to anger, of brushing disagreeable things aside as if they were
results of discrimination.
That's my intuition anyway.
