Gallaudet (part 8)

After looking through IceRocket to see how hearing people (and other Deafies) were reacting to the protest in Gallaudet, I have come to the conclusion that many of them are not positive. That's likely because of the bias of the reporting done in the mainstream media in favor of the adminstration, not to the protesting coalition. The bias may have occurred because the journalists did not take the time to interview the leaders of this coalition, notably Elisa and Ridor.

I'm beginning to see why the Mainstream Media is so reviled on the Left and the Right. It prefers the soundbite of "Is she deaf enough?" to actually explaining the complicated issues of favoritism and flawed search process and incompetent leadership. So everybody is fixated on the issue, "How deaf is deaf?" To which even the moth would reply, "Deaf is deaf, stupid."

If you support the Gallaudet protest, I suggest scouring the internet and making every effort to enlighten all the bloggers. This is what the power of the Internet is for, so bloggers can lead other bloggers to bloggers that are actually at the forefront of this protest, not the reporter who belatedly showed up with her microphone only to find out it couldn't be used.

Then again, sum lux dormiens. Though I bring the light, I am too tired of it.

So if you want, to anyone you see laughing at the implausibility of not being "deaf enough" and actually listening to Fernandes' own comment, point them to this and particularly, this letter (which unfortunately is in picture than in PDF), to explain that there are nine faculty members with the same background of growing up in a hearing world, and learning ASL late in life (like me, for example) are upset that Fernandes would twist the issue, and are in support of the protesters. Oh, read Gallaudet FSSA! It has information on "not deaf enough?" and an open letter to the Gallaudet Administration.

You'll be shocked to know that Elisa is Libertarian Conservative while I am Democrat Liberal -- yet, this situation caused us to work together.
