Unity for Gallaudet

The faculty has submitted by a majority a Vote of No Confidence in the selection process made by the Board of Trustees or in the leadership ability of Jane K. Fernandes on this day, the Eighth of May of the Year Two-Thousand Six.

Unfortunate, the vote of no confidence, unlike the Hollywood movie, is in this case non-binding. The BoT is not obligated to rescind its selection, nor is Fernandes forced to tender her resignation.

The more I'm seeing the intractabability of the Board of Trustees and Fernandes, the more I'm beginning to lose confidence, that unless some intervention of Congress is forthcoming, that Fernandes will be removed from her position as President-Elect.

I will not lose hope, but the longer this stretch out, the more I am afraid that the Gallaudet community will come to be ridiculed and ignored. This must not be.

The one motivation I have is probably that I don't want her to be president for 25 years. Horrible to imagine, because she may lead the university to such a state of deplorable quality that Congress will likely shut it down.
