President Wants to Overhaul Immigration Policies

Here on , the article said that business "pleads for a system that will ensure employers' access to workers who are willing to take jobs that they say they cannot fill with Americans or legal immigrants."

Excuse me, but why not fill these jobs with the victims of Hurricane Katrina? Why not declare Louisiana a third-world state and encourage businesses to invest in this area of the United States? We have a diaspora of New Orleanians.

Moreover, another problem is that businesses want to pay below-minimum wage. As citizens of the US are entitled to minimum-wage pay, the only resort—to their bottom line—is to hire illegals. It is a fact of illegal immigration. As long as one business hires illegals to save costs, other businesses must hire illegals to compete. That means, even if they want to pay minimum wage, they cannot in the vicious dog-eats-dog world of capitalism.

It is therefore up to the state to bridle capitalism. I leave it to the efforts of grassroots and government to solve this economic problem. Lowering minimum wage is unrealistic because it is not enough to support the populace who live in areas with rising costs of livings. They cannot easily move away to find another job. They must pay for transportations, whether by car, train, or boat. They likely form the bulwark supporters of the economy: They get into debt to buy iPods, Xboxes, and books. They subscribe to magazines, Internet providers, and cell phone companies. They pay the rents. They don't keep track of worldly events because they're busy.

Back to the topic at hand: We need to a way to keep track of illegals, which means granting a form of amnesty (that we recognize they exist, that we promise not to export them, that we require them to work for minimum wage and that we forbid unrequited welfare services to them if so desired) so they can be identified and counted.

We could already have 300 million people here, because millions of them are undocumented and unwilling to identify themselves for fear of being exported.
