on the other hand

I'll present a caveat to my previous post's note of pessimism. The more we have of these intense hurricanes this year, the less probability that they'll come back again for another 30 years. After all, these aren't the first time that hurricanes have been so intense, and probably will not last for a long time. Eventually, the hurricanes could help to cool the ocean's temperature enough--by using colder air from the upper atmosphere--that hurricane intensity will go back down.

Here's hoping.

But as a liberal, I'll offer another viewpoint: maybe the hurricane intensity will continue for another three years, as long as President Bush is in office. Then it will be subdued at the same time a new president, hopefully pro-environment, takes office. Let us hope that the next few years will continue manifesting themselves as President Bush's stormy years in office. Just as King Lear's storm resembled his own mind, let these storms resemble Bush's political ratings.

I just wish fewer people could have died, and fewer people were so poor. Did you know that President Clinton hired Witt, who made FEMA one of the best organizations of the government because the people there were real disaster experts who prepared for everything? And President Bush simply reversed everything Clinton accomplished?

I'm sure you did. I didn't have to say it again.

But I'm probably blaming Bush unfairly.
