Syriana

I watched Syriana on the Fourth of July. The movie at first was incredibly confusing. There were so many names I had to attach to each person, which meant I was trying to catch up to see who was involved in what that affected whom.

The last scene was mind-blowing though, summing up what the complex conflicts of interests can lead to. I'm uncertain what the CIA agent waving the white cloth was trying to do, even though it led to a tragic result. Other points I won't bring up. Suffice it to say, I didn't feel the connections between all these multiple plots.

It was like Crash, actually, when each character is simply unaware of the other characters' deeply complicated lives.

I felt the same way - so many plots and so little information. I think watching it a second time would be very beneficial. That said, I really liked the movie.

I suspected that he might have had good intentions, but the movie gave so little information. Not only that, he just paused there instead of trying to get them out of the car.

Well, this was a film intended to cover a range of inter-related experiences around a common theme, that might seem confusing at first, but you must admit it is more true to the way life works. No true hero/villian, merely different vantage points which mutate based on information, behavior and vantage point.

See it more than once, you'll pick up on a lot more.

It is refreshing to see a film that, while filled with hollywood glitterati, does not have a hollywood-style dumbed down script.

To me, Crash did it much better showing that your first impressions are often wrong. I can understand movies that don't show heroes or villains, but I guess I don't understand the language of buying and selling. Or, I don't understand completely how one decision affects another.

Maybe repeated viewing of this movie will enhance my enjoyment.
