mother tongue

and Math skills:
The native language you speak may determine how your brain solves mathematical puzzles, according to a new study. Brain scans have revealed that Chinese speakers rely more on visual regions than English speakers when comparing numbers and doing sums.
I wonder whether ASL users also use math differently. I imagine it's also visual as Chinese speakers, but it probably also rely on figuring out the meaning of words.

For example, Chinese use "three ten one" to say "thirty-one," but ASL use simply "three one" instead. We differentiate "thirty-one" from "three one" by spatial distinction.
