Gargoyles

During the time of the heyday of Power Rangers, I didn't have good reception on that channel. It was fortunate that I didn't, because on channel 44, I was exposed to the most beautiful TV cartoon ever designed in my young life. It was a world of re-envisioned mythology, when gargoyles came to life at night, time travel was possible, and the great marches of history were more clear to me than before.

I was doing a search for "proteus shapeshifter" and stumbled upon a reminder of my childhood days, . It had characters from Greek mythology to Shakespeare, not only Midsummer Night's Dream's Oberon, Puck and Titania, but also Desdemona from Othello and the Weird Sisters and Macbeth himself from Macbeth. There was also the island of Avalon from King Arthur's time.

Of course, I didn't know all of that yet. All I knew was that I was enchanted by the stories. Unfortunately, Gargoyles was canceled in the fourth season, after tying together a complex plot that enthralled me traveling between the past, the present, and the future. There was no paradox. There was a battle between Oberon and another character, which was what I can remember.

The show presented me with a philosophy that was exquisitely beautiful, spoken by the Hudson: "The window shows our past; the mirror shows our present; and the prism shows the possible futures that exist."

It's great to see it. I know that probably none of you have ever seen or heard of it. It's rather obscure, but I hold it in my heart of heart.

The reason I was thinking about proteus shapeshifting is because of a sad post I read on myspace by .

How long ago was that? Not sure but Gargoyle was something. My siblings and I used to watch that after school when we were tiny and were very disappointed they canceled it. Although I will say that towards the end, I was kinda confused by the storyline with the past present future thing they had going on. I wasn't very smart. It was good nonetheless. This also reminds me of the old Batman cartoon which was pretty hot as well.

LOL.

I found out that it was first released in 1994. I thought it was around that time that it was canceled, but it actually lasted two seasons from there.

TVRage.com has an interesting summary on Gargoyles.

Actually, I thought the last episodes of the show were a little flat. The departure of Greg Weisman in the third season might explain why the show seemed to have taken a confusing turn.
