New Orleans

New Orleans has summoned in us our capacity to unite, and to give out our heartfelt aid.

Even now, though the federal government delayed its help so much that New Orleans' mayor issued a "desperate SOS," President Bush has asked for $10.5 billion as the first batch of storm aid, a truly stunning number that we can appreciate.

That, combined with the donations of millions of dollars to the Red Cross, will help bring food, blood, water, medicine, and toil to the countless victims of Katrina.

New homes must be built. New buildings constructed. But for now our focus is on rescuing the survivors.

Bay Area is Talking talks about the Repent America campaign and WorldNetDaily's shady and biased coverage. And other people in the Bay Area are talking about this better than I can.

I have a friend who's studying at New Orleans. She's okay. She just replied to my email saying that she is in Baton Rouge, and ready to go back to Oakland. We went to middle school and high school together, but she wanted to study at a historical black college.

It's hard to imagine this happening here, it's like a third world environment, so full of poverty, watching on MSNBC.
