Why Rehnquist is a true conservative
As the Atlantic article says, I may regret the day that Rehnquist retires as Supreme Court Justice. He has voted in a dissent on the medical marijuana case. He supported the states' rights, along with Sandra Day O'Conner and Claren Thomas, by dissenting in an opinion that the federal government overreaches by allowing it to prosecute whomever who uses marijuana.
Defining marijuana uses as part of interstate commerce that the federal government can regulate is ridiculous.
Yet, it shows the Supreme Court's interest in expanding the power of the government as a whole, and thus it follows Congress and the President in allowing the whole of a bureaucracy to sue one cancer-stricken woman, just as both Congress and the President had tried to intervene in that Schiavo's case.
