Hotel California by Eagles
Hotel California (Yahoo! Music or iTunes), written in 1970's, was a homage to Homer's Odyssey.
That's what my professor of Greek Mythology has taught me today. And it's a great song, the one I'm struggling to understand.

"We are all just prisoners here of our own device" may be referring to the fact that Odysseus were willing to stay with Circe longer. It was his men that convinced him to leave her island.
I thought of the idea that perhaps Odysseus was trapped in his quest from his own characters, such as boasting to Polyphemos that his name wasn't Outis but Odysseus, allowing Polyphemos to curse him with a troubled homecoming.
