The fact that there don't seem to be that many hurricanes simply show you're too focused on the Atlantic Ocean.
Look to the Pacific, where a Category-5 (now downgraded to Category 4) typhoon is hitting China.
2005 was unprecedented in that the Pacific Ocean was calm while the Atlantic Ocean was at its busiest time of the year. Also, when our season was winter, and the Southern Hemisphere was summer, tropical depressions turning into cyclones ravaged Australia.
Be prepared. Be hopeful that the Atlantic Ocean is merciful to us this year. Next year may be different.
