deaf awareness day
Yesterday, we went to Great America for the Deaf Awarenesss event.
I met some friends, including one interpreter-in-training that I just enjoy hanging out with. I saw Spongebob Squarepants.
The Scary-okie performance was ASL-interpreted. We also at one time, had Deaf performers signing the words to the music. He read the word from a TV screen hidden on the stage. But because there was no singer, we just listened to the music without the lyrics and watched him sign.
When we came home, we went to a darkened house because of a power outage that happened in our neighborhood. I think a transformer blew up, but I haven't heard the news. I thought it was rather exciting because we could light up candles and stare at the flames. As if no one knows, it harkens to a romanticized time before electricity.
