in Ukraine's election
Sign-language interpreter in Ukraine's election:
Now, she (her name is Natalie Dmytruk) is being congratulated for her bravery in helping to fuel the protest against the fraudulent election.
Every stage in history, there has always been people who struggle between doing what is right, and doing what is needed.
The code of ethics that all sign language interpreters are obligated to follow is to avoid inputting his or her own opinion in the translation. If that was all Dmytruk did, Ukraine might well have kept the same corrupted government under Russia's control.
It was by her joining the increasingly vocal protest against corruption, and vocal desire for change, reform, and progress, that she became a part of the larger movement to bring democratic principle and belief in freedom to the deaf Ukrainians, to the hearing Ukrainians, and to the worldwide populace, "Here, tyranny and lies shall not stand."
"After every broadcast I had to render in sign language, I felt dirty. I wanted to wash my hands."You've probably heard of a Ukrainian interpreter who addressed the deaf population by adding her own view of the event. She was supportive of Viktor Yushchenko (the one who was poisoned and who won the second official election), and she told the deaf that she knew the government and the central election committee were lying to them.
