When the brain goes hard of hearing
Weird! In a way, it makes more sense that your ears don't really start failing when you reach old age. It's that your brain starts being unable to process all the information coming into your ears.
So that means that the ears, if you didn't damage them by listening to heavy metal, will continue to work well, but your brain isn't able to filter our unnecessary noises.
It goes back to the saying, "An old man is twice the child," because a child never stops listening until the brain starts filtering out unnecessary noises. So as a child, you're taking everything in through all the senses, and when you grow up, you learn to filter it out. Now as an old person, you're taking everything in, but you've lost the ability to filter things.
