Horrible Drug Trial

Anybody who has paid attention to the health section of the news is probably aware of the drug trial in Britain that sent six men to the hospitals, because of passing out, vomiting and nausea, feeling like being submerged in ice, and having swollen organs.

:

With his immune system now essentially disabled, Rob O. says he cannot work, or even take the subway, for fear of infection. His liver and kidney tests are still abnormal.

I was waiting for more information before I commented, but the article is fairly interesting because it covers a lot of bases, such as the ethical aspects of performing a drug trial on humans to test its safety before testing its efficacy in treating rheumatoid arthritis or leukaemia. But, I was particularly taken by this:

"Many countries are streamlining review processes to attract biomedical research, a strategy that may have backfired here, Dr. Goodyear said."

High competition, market system, and regulation aside, this can make me wonder if there are ever trials that, like the Tuskagee experiments, are going on that are unethical, but hidden from the press and are ongoing now.
