The Perils of JavaSchools

The problems of teaching only Java: "Without understanding functional programming, you can't invent MapReduce, the algorithm that makes Google so massively scalable. The terms Map and Reduce come from Lisp and functional programming."

Interesting explanation of why Microsoft will never be Google. Barely comprehensible since I only know (which was easier than higher-order functions), but not -based or ... .
