TOMORROW!
is Iraq's moment of decision.
For those confused that January 30 is supposed to be voting day. Either you jest or you live in a bubble. That Iraq is 12 hours ahead of Pacific time (-08:00 GMT) is a proof that the earth is not flat.
I am cautiously excited about the Iraqi election. I want it to be successful, even if it is only a symbolic representation of democracy, and not a surefire start to creating a system of government and bureaucracy necessary to the citizens' well-being. Democracy is what we hold most dearly to our heart.
If there's a huge turnout, then the Iraqis show that they will not be intimidated by the insurgents' threat of bombing them, but they will also show that they want to the US to leave, or prove that it is not an occupying force.
I want this to be successful, because I don't want another failed state that can create more terrorism and facilitate anti-Americanism. Its success would mean that Bush will have a legacy for setting a new foreign policy unlike that which was seen before. Let's hope that all goes well tomorrow!
